Armenian physicists in the fight against cancer. "Power of thought" -
The AANL Isotope Research and Production Department is improving the technology for producing Technetium-99m isotope using the C18/18 cyclotron. The employees of the Department are ready to go through a long and difficult process of obtaining a permit and certificate to open an experimental production and to supply medical technetium to clinics in Armenia.

Alikhanyan National Scientific Laboratory has financial problems. Equipment for
accurate diagnosis and treatment of cancer is in place, but starting of its
operation is still unsuccessful. With a device called Cyclotron, it would be
possible not only to solve a serious health problem, but also to energize studies
in low-energy nuclear physics. However, investments are needed to succeed.

"IAEA Supports Medical Isotope Production in Armenia" - YEREVAN — The International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has indicated its support for the Technetium 99m Medical
Isotope Production Project at the newly formed Medical Isotope Production Division of
the Yerevan Physics Institute (YerPhI). The research and production program will use an
18 MeV (million electron-volt) proton beam of an IBAC18 cyclotron particle accelerator
to be installed at a newly renovated facility of the physics institute by the end of 2014.
The Technetium is produced by irradiating Molybdenum with a proton beam from the cyclotron.
